Guide — the dancing banana, fullscreen
An original cartoon banana boogies across four vibes, with sliders for dance speed and groove, five toppings and an optional synthesised beat. Drawn on an HTML5 canvas, nothing to install.Choose Groovy, Disco, VHS or Rave, or press 1 to 4. Each vibe sets its own backdrop, dance speed and groove; Disco and Rave also switch on the disco lights.
Dance Speed runs from 1 (“Asleep”) to 10 (“MAXIMUM”), with Boogie (5) as the default. Groove Intensity (1 to 10) sets how far the banana slides, hops, leans and swings its arms.
Toggle the Flashing lyrics (short lines from the song that change every 1.7 seconds), the Disco lights, the Baseball bat (swung when the bat line comes up) and the Scanlines.
Switch on Groove beat (sound) for a kick drum and hi-hat made live with the Web Audio API. It is off by default, follows the dance speed from 87 to 168 BPM and stops while paused.
Press Enter Fullscreen, click the banana or press F. Space pauses, R resets to Groovy, and Esc or the Exit Fullscreen button (shown when you move the mouse) leaves.

Peanut Butter Jelly Time, explained
What is Peanut Butter Jelly Time?
“Peanut Butter Jelly Time” is a song by the Buckwheat Boyz. In the early 2000s it became one of the best-known Flash animations of the era: a pixel dancing banana looping to the track, shared endlessly by email and on Flash sites. This page is an original tribute to that meme: a cartoon banana in white gloves and red sneakers dancing on an HTML5 canvas.
Is this the original Flash animation?
No. The original was a Flash animation, and browsers dropped Flash support when Adobe ended it in 2020. This is an original tribute drawn from scratch with JavaScript on an HTML5 canvas. It uses none of the original artwork or audio, is not affiliated with the song’s creators, and runs on any current device with nothing to install.
Does it play the song?
No. The original track is not included. Switch on Groove beat (sound) for a simple loop of a synthesised kick drum and hi-hat, generated live with the Web Audio API. Its tempo follows Dance Speed, from 87 BPM at 1 to 168 BPM at 10. It is off by default, stops while the animation is paused, and switches off again when you reset.
How do I make it fullscreen?
Click the banana, press Enter Fullscreen or press F. Move the mouse to show the Exit Fullscreen button, which hides again 2.5 seconds after the mouse stops, or press Esc. Where a browser blocks the fullscreen API, the animation fills the browser window instead. The page does not keep the display awake, so set your screen’s sleep timer to Never if it should keep dancing.
What can I customise?
Pick one of four vibes, Groovy, Disco, VHS or Rave, then fine-tune Dance Speed and Groove Intensity (both 1 to 10). Toggle the flashing lyrics, the disco light beams, the baseball bat, the scanlines and the optional groove beat. Reset Defaults (or R) returns to Groovy with the beat off.
