Microsoft rebuilt Teams from the ground up. What was first known as "Teams 2.0" is now simply the new Microsoft Teams, the standard app on Windows and Mac. Classic Teams has been fully replaced. What's different, and what should you know?
What is the new Teams?
- One app for work, school and personal accounts. Switch quickly between accounts and organizations without signing out.
- A new technical foundation, built on Microsoft Edge WebView2.
- Runs on Windows, macOS (natively on Apple silicon too), the web, iOS and Android.
- New features, such as Copilot, only come to the new Teams.
Install and update
- Download Teams from Microsoft's official website or the Microsoft Store.
- Sign in with your work or school account.
- Teams updates itself automatically. Check your version via Settings and more > About.
On managed devices your IT department usually deploys Teams through Intune or Microsoft's installer.
Teams not working well?
- Fully restart Teams: close it from the system tray as well.
- Clear the Teams cache.
- In Windows choose Settings > Apps > Microsoft Teams > Repair or Reset.
