Using Copilot in Dutch

Copilot works in Dutch. You type your question in Dutch and get an answer in Dutch, in Word, Outlook, Teams and the other Microsoft 365 apps. Dutch has been a supported language for Microsoft 365 Copilot since spring 2024. Here's how it works, how to set the language and what to watch out for. The same steps apply to the other supported languages.

Which Copilot are we talking about?

All three understand Dutch. Microsoft keeps the list of supported languages per app in the Microsoft 365 Copilot documentation. Not every feature is available in every language straight away, so a new feature may appear in English first.

Set the language

Copilot usually answers in the language of your question. In the Microsoft 365 apps, the display language also matters, for example for the suggested prompts.

  1. Go to microsoft365.com and select the gear or your profile at the top right.
  2. Open your account's language and time zone settings and choose Nederlands (Dutch).
  3. In the desktop apps, choose the language via File > Options > Language.
  4. Restart the apps. The suggested prompts then appear in Dutch.

Still getting an English answer? Add "Answer in Dutch" to your prompt. If you want Flemish wording or a specific tone, ask for that explicitly too.

What can you do with it?
