Before you join a meeting, you can improve your video in Teams: adjust the light, soften your image, blur your background or choose a filter. The filters Microsoft was working on in 2021 (roadmap ID 65944) are now part of the regular Teams app. The old tip to use Snapchat filters via Snap Camera no longer works: Snap Camera was discontinued in 2023. Use the built-in Teams effects instead.
Open video effects
- On the pre-join screen: select Video effects and settings (or Effects and avatars).
- During a meeting: select the arrow next to Camera > Video effects and settings.
What can you set?
| Option | What does it do? |
|---|---|
| Adjust brightness | Brightens your video when you sit in a dark room. |
| Soft focus | Softens your image slightly, a bit like a beauty filter. |
| Backgrounds | Blur your background or pick an image. |
| Filters | Color filters and frames for your video. Which filters you see depends on your version. |
| Avatars | Join as an avatar instead of with your camera. |
The exact names and options can vary by version and device.
On a Copilot+ PC
On a Copilot+ PC, Windows has its own Studio Effects, such as automatic framing, eye contact and background blur. They work in every app, including Teams. You find them in the Windows quick settings. Also see brightness and soft focus in Teams and Snapchat lenses in Teams.
