Each lane has its own mute, solo, volume, tuning, decay, pan and echo send. The master runs through a compressor and limiter so loud beats stay clean.

A free online drum machine and beat maker
Drum Loop Studio is a free online drum machine and beat maker for making drum loops in your browser. It is a 10-lane step sequencer with four kits, a genre beat generator, 44 preset grooves, a per-lane mixer and seamless WAV export. Every sound is synthesised live with the Web Audio API, so there are no samples, no plugins, no download and no signup.
It suits producers sketching a groove, musicians who want a practice beat, and anyone who needs a loop for a game, video or stream. If you just want to tap pads, the simpler Drum Pad Looper is the easier way in.
How to make a drum loop
The quickest route is the generator: press GEN, choose a genre and an energy level and press GENERATE. You get a complete groove with a matching kit and tempo. Then make it yours: click cells to add or remove hits, right-click to change velocity, Shift-click for probability, Alt-click for ratchets, and add some swing. When it sounds right, press SHARE for a link or EXPORT for a WAV.
Drum beat generator: a new groove in one click
The built-in drum beat generator (GEN or G) writes a fresh 16-step pattern in one of eight genres, with a matching kit and tempo: house (909, 124 BPM), techno (909, 132), hip-hop (808, 92), trap (808, 140), drum & bass (909, 174), breakbeat (909, 112), afrobeat (808, 108) and rock (909, 118). Each genre keeps its defining backbone fixed, such as four-on-the-floor kicks in house or the backbeat snare in hip-hop, and then decides at random which of the extra hits to add.
- Energy sets how many of those extra hits appear: Laid back keeps about a quarter of them, Groovy about half and Busy most of them. Busy also scatters soft ghost notes on the snare and hats, and trap and drum & bass get hi-hat rolls at Groovy and Busy.
- Humanize softens some hits and lets a few hats and rims play only part of the time, so the loop does not sound machine-perfect.
- Seed: leave it blank for a random drum beat; the seed number appears after every generate. Type that number back in to get exactly the same groove again, which makes it a repeatable drum pattern generator.
The generated beat replaces the pattern you are on, and Ctrl+Z brings the old one back. Generate a few times, keep the one that grooves, then edit it by hand. That is usually faster than starting from an empty grid.
Making a full beat online, not just a loop
As a beat maker the studio takes you from one bar to a finished drum track. Build a main groove on pattern A, copy it to B and add a fill on the last beats, make C a breakdown with only hats and rim, and chain them in SONG mode, for example A A A B A A C B. Swing, the tempo-synced echo and the filter sweep give each part its own feel, and EXPORT renders the whole chain as one WAV. Add a melody or chords on top with the 8-Bit Studio or the chord pad with drums.
Finger drumming: your keyboard as drum pads
The bottom row of a QWERTY keyboard works as ten drum pads: Z is the kick, then snare, clap, hats, toms, rim, perc and crash up to /. The key for each lane is printed next to its name. Press ● REC or R while the beat plays and what you tap is written into the pattern, snapped to the nearest step, so you can play a groove in by feel and fix it on the grid afterwards. On a phone or tablet, tap a lane name to hear that drum. If you want pads that start a whole groove with one tap, the Drum Pad Looper is made for that.
Online drum pads and drum sequencer in one
Searches for an online drum pad and an online drum sequencer usually mean two different tools: pads you hit live, and a grid you program. Here they are the same instrument. Each of the ten lanes is a pad on your keyboard and a row in the 16- or 32-step sequencer, so you can tap a rhythm in by hand, record it into the grid with ● REC, and then fix the timing, velocity and accents step by step. On a touchscreen, tap the cells directly. For practising along with fixed loops instead, the Drum Pad Looper has 57 ready-made grooves.
The four drum kits
There are no drum samples. Kicks and toms are pitch-swept oscillators, snares mix a tuned body with shaped noise, claps are staggered noise bursts, the 909 and electro hats are stacks of detuned square waves, and the 8-bit kit uses crushed, sample-and-hold noise. That is why the studio loads fast and keeps working offline once the page is open.

44 preset grooves
The LOOPS menu loads a classic rhythm with its kit, tempo and swing. Treat them as a starting point to remix, not a finished track. The number is the tempo in BPM.

Swing, probability and ratchets
Swing delays every second 16th note so the groove leans instead of marching. 0% is straight and clubby, around 20–35% adds a human shuffle that suits house and hip-hop, and the top of the range heads towards a triplet feel. Try one pattern at different swing values; it changes the character completely.
Probability makes a hit play only 75%, 50% or 25% of the time, so the loop breathes and never sounds exactly the same twice. A ratchet retriggers a step 2, 3 or 4 times within its length, for hi-hat rolls and trap-style stutters.
Song mode and live pattern queueing
You have eight patterns, A to H. In LOOP mode one pattern repeats, and pressing 1–8 while it plays queues the next one to switch when the current pattern ends, like a live set. In SONG mode you build a chain such as A A B A C and the studio plays through it in order, looping the whole arrangement. Export then renders the full chain.
Seamless loop export, royalty-free
The studio renders your loop offline, including the tempo-synced echo and long crash tails. Anything that rings past the end is mixed back into the start of the file, so the WAV repeats without a gap or a cut-off tail in game engines, video editors and DAWs. Export 1, 2 or 4 repeats of the pattern or the song chain. What you program here is your own work: use it in tracks, games, videos or streams, commercial or not. A credit or a coffee is appreciated but never required.
Share a beat as a link
SHARE compresses the whole project — every step, the kit and all mixer values — into the part of the link after the #. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account: whoever opens the link gets your beat loaded and ready to remix. Bookmarked links double as versions of your own work.
Fullscreen performance mode
Press F or FULL and the grid and transport fill the screen while the rest of the page disappears. A screen wake lock keeps the display on while you play. Esc or the button exits. Where true fullscreen is not available, such as on iPhone, the studio fills the whole page instead.
On a phone or tablet
The grid is touch-friendly: tap to toggle steps, and the transport, generator, presets and mixer all work on mobile. Right-click velocity, Shift and Alt modifiers and finger drumming need a mouse and keyboard, so a desktop browser is more comfortable for detail work.
Nothing leaves your device
The studio autosaves to your browser's local storage, so a refresh does not lose your beat. SAVE downloads the project as a small JSON file you can LOAD later, and a bookmarked share link is another copy. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you share the link yourself.
