A precise metronome & tap-tempo BPM counter

This free online metronome keeps perfect time using the Web Audio API with a look-ahead scheduler, so the click never drifts the way setInterval-based metronomes do. Set any tempo from 30 to 300 BPM, pick a time signature and subdivision, and the first beat of each bar is accented. Don't know the tempo of a song? Use the tap-tempo BPM counter — tap along and it works out the beats per minute for you. A swinging pendulum and flashing beat dots give you a silent visual beat too. Nothing is tracked or uploaded.

FAQ & about the metronome

FAQ — Online Metronome & BPM Counter

What is a metronome and what is BPM?

A metronome plays a steady click at a tempo you set so you can practise in time. BPM means beats per minute — the number of clicks per minute. 60 BPM is one beat per second; 120 BPM is two.

How does tap tempo work?

Tap the TAP button (or press T) in time with the music. The tool averages the interval between your last few taps and converts it to BPM, so you can find any song's tempo by ear.

How accurate is the timing?

Very accurate. It uses the Web Audio API with a look-ahead scheduler that places each click on the audio hardware clock instead of relying on JavaScript timers — avoiding the drift and jitter of setInterval metronomes.

Can I set a time signature and subdivisions?

Yes — choose from 2/4 up to 7/8, with the first beat accented, and add eighth, triplet or sixteenth subdivisions between the main beats.

Does it work on a phone and in fullscreen?

Yes — iPhone, iPad, Android and desktop. The fullscreen mode is iOS-safe, so the visual pendulum fills the whole screen even on iPhone.

Is it free and private?

Completely free, no account, no ads. Everything runs in your browser — no practice data is collected. It's one of the free tools at jasperbernaers.com.
