Which audio formats can I open and export?

What do the effects do, in plain words?

Gain makes it louder or quieter by a set amount. Normalize raises the whole thing so the loudest peak hits your target level. Fade in/out ramps the volume smoothly. Reverse plays it backwards. Speed makes it faster/slower (pitch changes too, like a tape). Low-pass / high-pass remove highs or lows — great against rumble and hiss. Echo adds repeating delays; reverb adds room ambience. The noise gate silences quiet passages between words, and the compressor evens out loud and soft parts.

Do effects apply to the whole file or just my selection?

If you have a selection, every effect applies only to the selected region — that's the standard workflow: select the noisy part, gate it; select the quiet sentence, gain it. With no selection, effects apply to the entire file. The selection info bar under the waveform always shows what's selected.

How do I remove background noise or hiss from a recording?

Three practical steps: 1) apply a high-pass filter around 80–120 Hz to cut rumble and mic handling noise; 2) use the noise gate with a threshold just above the hiss level (try −50 dB) so pauses become truly silent; 3) for constant hiss in the highs, a gentle low-pass at 10–14 kHz helps. The spectrogram view (▦) shows noise as a constant band, so you can see exactly what to target.

What is the spectrogram view for?

The spectrogram shows frequency content over time — time runs left to right, low frequencies at the bottom, high at the top, and brightness is loudness. It makes problems visible that are hard to hear: mains hum is a thin horizontal line at 50/60 Hz, hiss is a wash across the top, a phone notification is a sudden bright blip. Toggle it with the ▦ spectrogram button or S, select the offending region and treat it with the filters or gate.

How does loop playback work?

Select a region and enable ∞ loop (L), then press play: the selection repeats seamlessly until you stop. It's the fastest way to audition an edit point, check whether a trimmed loop clicks, or fine-tune effect settings on a short passage while it plays over and over.

What are split markers and how do I use them?

Press ◇ split (M) to drop a marker at the cursor. Markers divide the timeline into regions — double-click between two markers to select that region instantly, then cut it, apply an effect, or use export → selection only to save it as its own file. That's a quick way to slice a long recording (a podcast, a rehearsal, a voice memo dump) into separate takes.

Can I combine two audio files?

Yes — place the cursor where the second file should go and press ⇓ insert file. The file is decoded, automatically resampled to match, and spliced in at the cursor. Combined with trim and fades, this covers most "join these recordings" jobs — intro + interview + outro, for example.

Should I export WAV or MP3?

WAV is lossless — perfect quality, big files. Choose it when you'll edit again later or need the best source (16-bit for general use, 24-bit if the audio goes into further production). MP3 is compressed — much smaller, ideal for sharing, podcasts and phones; 192 kbps is transparent for voice, 320 kbps is safest for music. Repeated MP3 re-exports slowly stack compression artifacts, so keep a WAV master if you plan more edits.

Why does the speed effect change the pitch too?

This editor changes speed the honest, artifact-free way: by resampling, like speeding up a tape — 200% is twice as fast and an octave higher. Time-stretching that preserves pitch requires heavy processing that adds smearing artifacts, so it's deliberately not included; for voice at small adjustments (90–110%) the pitch shift is barely noticeable anyway.

Is there undo? What are the keyboard shortcuts?

Yes — selection by dragging, tap to place the cursor, all effects, recording and export work on iOS and Android. Precise millisecond editing is easier with a mouse and keyboard, but trimming a voice memo and exporting it as MP3 is perfectly comfortable on a phone.

How large a file can I edit?

Audio is held in memory as uncompressed samples: roughly 10 MB per minute of stereo at 44.1 kHz. Files up to 30–60 minutes are fine on a typical laptop; multi-hour recordings may push memory limits, especially on phones. If you only need a section of a huge file, trim it early — that frees memory for the rest of the session.

Can I use the edited audio commercially?

The editor adds no restrictions whatsoever — what you export is yours. The only rights that matter are those of the source audio: your own recordings are yours to use anywhere, including commercially; for music or clips someone else created, their license applies regardless of what tool you edit them with.
