IKEA background in Microsoft Teams

In 2020, IKEA released a set of virtual backgrounds for video calls: home offices, living rooms, rooms with a view and festive tables. They look calm and familiar, ideal for Teams. Here is a selection and how to set them in the new Teams. The old method with the %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Teams\Backgrounds folder no longer works in the new Teams, and the original IKEA campaign site may no longer be online.

How to set a background

  1. Right-click an image below and choose Save image as.
  2. In the new Teams, open the pre-join screen of a meeting, or during the meeting select the arrow next to Camera.
  3. Choose Video effects and settings (the exact name can vary, for example Effects and avatars).
  4. Under Backgrounds, select Add new and pick your image.
  5. Select the background and choose Apply.

A landscape image of about 1920 × 1080 pixels works best. The images on this page are resized; for a sharper version, look up the photo on the original photo site. Note that an admin can turn off custom backgrounds, and with Teams Premium your organization can also provide official backgrounds. More in set a custom background in Teams.

Can I use them?

IKEA made these backgrounds available for free for use in video calls. The rights remain with IKEA: don't use them in advertising or on your own website. For official business meetings, a background from your own organization is a better choice. Also see free Teams backgrounds.
