Zero camera access by default. This flashlight uses your screen to emit light, not your device's LED flash. The only exception is the optional Real Camera Torch button, which you must click to enable — no video is ever captured, viewed, or sent anywhere.

Unlike mobile flashlight apps that request camera, location, and contacts permissions, this tool works entirely in your browser with zero data collection.

How to Use

Bookmark this page on your phone's home screen for instant access. On iOS: Share → Add to Home Screen. On Android: Menu → Add to Home Screen.

Works offline after first load. When any mode is active, the tool tries to keep your screen awake with the Wake Lock API so it won't dim mid-use — watch the status chip on the light screen above.

Frequently Asked Questions — Ultimate Flashlight

Does this flashlight access my camera?

Not by default. The core flashlight uses your screen to emit light, never your camera. There is one optional feature, Real Camera Torch, which you must explicitly enable with a button click. Even then, no video is captured, viewed, or transmitted — the camera stream is used only to trigger the hardware flash and is released the moment you turn the torch off.

Is there a real camera flashlight (torch) mode?

Yes, as an optional opt-in feature. Click Enable Real Camera Torch in the Flashlight section to request camera permission and toggle your device's actual LED flash via the browser's torch control. This only works on browsers and devices that expose torch control — currently Android Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers.

Why can't I use the camera torch on iPhone?

Apple's WebKit engine, which powers Safari and every browser on iOS, does not expose torch control to web pages. This is a platform restriction, not a limitation of this tool. iPhone users get the full set of 32 screen-based light modes instead, which need no permissions at all.

Will my screen stay on while the flashlight is active?

Yes, on supported browsers. The tool requests a Screen Wake Lock while any mode is running, which prevents your device from dimming or locking — watch for the "wake lock: on" status chip on the light screen. If your browser doesn't support the Wake Lock API, adjust your device's own screen-timeout setting before relying on the flashlight for an extended period.

How do I use this on my phone?

Simply bookmark this page on your phone's home screen. On iOS: tap Share → Add to Home Screen. On Android: tap Menu → Add to Home Screen. It will work like a native app, but without any permissions or tracking beyond what you explicitly opt into.

Can I send a custom Morse code message?

Yes. Type any short message into the Custom Morse Message field and it's converted to standard International Morse Code timing (dot, dash, and gap durations) and flashed on screen in a loop. Letters A-Z and digits 0-9 are supported.

Is strobe or flashing mode safe to use?

Rapid flashing light — used in Strobe, Police, Ambulance, Rescue, Disco, and Hazard Beacon modes — can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. If you or anyone nearby has photosensitive epilepsy, avoid these modes and stick to the steady-light or ambient modes instead.

Can I set an auto-off timer?

Yes. The Auto-Off Timer dropdown in the Controls section lets you pick 5, 15, 30, or 60 minutes; the light automatically switches off after that time so you don't accidentally drain your battery overnight.

Can I share a specific mode with someone via a link?

Yes. Click Share This Mode to copy a link with your current mode, brightness, and any custom color or Morse text encoded in the URL. Opening that link loads the page straight into that exact mode — handy for sending someone a ready-to-tap SOS or Morse message link.

What is the Bike Safety mode for?

Bike Safety flashes a short, bright red pulse pattern similar to a rear bicycle safety light, useful for extra roadside visibility. It's a supplement, not a replacement, for a certified bike light — check your local traffic laws before relying on a phone screen alone.

What is the Hazard Beacon mode?

Hazard Beacon is a steady amber blink at roughly one flash per second, similar to a roadside hazard light, useful for signalling your location in low visibility. It is not a substitute for a real reflective hazard triangle or warning light.

Can I use the Police, Ambulance, or Rescue Alert modes on the road?

No. These are novelty light-pattern simulations for parties, costumes, or fun — not certified emergency equipment. Using lights that imitate emergency vehicles on a public road is illegal in most jurisdictions. Use these modes indoors or off public roads only.

Can I adjust the color temperature or warmth of the white light?

Yes. Alongside pure White, there are dedicated Warm White and Cool White presets, plus a full custom color picker if you want to dial in an exact hue for reading, makeup, or photography lighting.

How many light modes are there in total?

33 modes across six categories: Steady Light, Everyday, Signals & Safety, Alert Lights, Party & Fun, and Ambient & Cozy — everything from a plain white flashlight to SOS, custom Morse, a real camera torch, and a heartbeat pulse.

Will this drain my battery?

A full-screen light plus an active Wake Lock uses more battery than a dedicated LED flash, especially at high brightness. Lower the brightness slider, set an auto-off timer, and avoid the Real Camera Torch feature (which also lights the display) if you need long battery life.

Can I save my favorite modes?

Yes! Click Save Current as Preset to store up to 8 named presets — mode, brightness, strobe speed, custom color, or Morse text — in your browser's local storage. They persist across visits and are 100% private, never sent to any server.

Does this work offline?

Yes! Once the page loads, all light modes, presets, and the Morse encoder run entirely in your browser with no network requests, so the tool keeps working without an internet connection.

Does this use any external libraries or trackers?

No. It's vanilla HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with zero external dependencies. The only network request is the optional, privacy-first SimpleAnalytics script, which doesn't use cookies or track individuals.

Is this really free? No ads?

Completely free, forever. No ads, no subscription, no watermark, no tracking. This is one of over 160 free browser tools at jasperbernaers.com. If it saves you time, consider buying me a coffee to keep these tools free for everyone.

Why is this better than a flashlight app from an app store?

Mobile flashlight apps routinely request camera, location, and contacts permissions and bundle ad trackers. This tool needs zero permissions for its 32 screen-based modes, asks only when you explicitly opt into the real camera torch, and installs nothing — just open the page.
