Guide β a glowing LED sign in 30 seconds

Each line of the message box is a separate message. Scrolling messages play one after another; static and blinking ones change every few seconds.

A free online LED scrolling sign and message board
LED Scrolling Banner turns any screen into an online LED sign. Type a message and it runs across the display as glowing dot-matrix lights, like the signs in shop windows, stations, stadiums and studios. You choose how it moves, how fast, how big, which colour and which font, and then go fullscreen on a phone, tablet, laptop, TV or spare monitor. There is nothing to install.
What people use it for
- A digital OPEN, CLOSED or BACK IN 5 MIN sign on a tablet or old monitor in the shop window. The countdown template shows exactly when you are back.
- Concerts and festivals: a scrolling message on a phone held above the crowd. In fullscreen the phone turns the text sideways for the widest letters.
- Parties: HAPPY BIRTHDAY! in rainbow on the TV, with the bulb frame for a fairground look.
- Talks, studios and events: an ON AIR light, a stage timer for speakers, a WELCOME board with the Wi-Fi name, or a clock on a screen by the door.
- Car and window signs: mirror mode flips the text so it reads correctly in a reflection.
LED banner, LED scroller or scrolling marquee?
They are three names for the same thing. An LED banner or LED scroller is a phone or screen showing large glowing text that runs from right to left, the way a dot-matrix sign above a shop door or a train platform does; a marquee is the older web term for scrolling text. Turn your phone sideways, go full screen and it works as a sign at a concert, an airport pick-up or a shop window; on a TV or a second monitor it becomes a message board. Nothing is installed, and the text never leaves your device.
How to make a scrolling text sign
Type your text in the Message box; put each message on its own line if you want several. Pick a mode, set the speed (1 to 20) and the text height (7 to 32 LEDs), choose a colour and a font, then press Enter fullscreen, click the display or press F. Space pauses, the arrow keys change the speed and Esc brings you back. Scrolling runs at the same speed on every screen, whether it refreshes at 60 or 120 times a second.
How the dot-matrix effect works
A real dot-matrix display builds every letter from a grid of LEDs. This one does the same: the text is drawn once on a hidden canvas, sampled into a grid of on and off dots and painted as round or square LEDs with a soft glow. The unlit LEDs stay faintly visible, which is what makes it look like a real board. The Pixel font goes one step further and uses a classic 5Γ7 bitmap font, the kind used on old train boards and calculators, scaled up in whole LEDs so every dot stays sharp.
Clock and countdown signs
In Clock mode the board shows the time of the device it runs on, with or without seconds, in 24-hour or 12-hour format, or with the date. In Countdown mode you set a number of minutes or a time of day, press start, and the board counts down in minutes and seconds (hours appear for longer timers). When it reaches zero it flashes TIME!. A shared countdown link starts a fresh countdown of the same length when it is opened.
On a phone or tablet
It works on iPhone, iPad and Android as well as on a computer. Safari on iPhone does not allow normal fullscreen, so the sign uses its own fullscreen that still fills the screen. If you hold a phone upright in fullscreen, the sign rotates to landscape so the text runs along the long side. Where the browser supports it, the screen is kept awake while the sign is in fullscreen.
Share it, or save it as a video
Copy share link puts your messages and every setting into the web address, so whoever opens it sees exactly your sign. Download 6-second video records the moving sign for a story, a chat or a presentation, and Download picture saves the current frame as a PNG.
Private and free
Everything runs in your browser. Your text is never uploaded; your last sign is kept in your browser's local storage so it is there next time. Once the page has loaded it keeps working without a connection. Free, with no account, no ads and no watermark.
