Each food eaten scores 10 × current level. Every 5 foods bumps the level, increasing speed and score multiplier. Rare golden bonuses appear briefly for 50 × level. Your high score is saved in your browser automatically.

Why does the snake start so long?

The snake starts with 10 segments so the game is immediately challenging — you have to think about your path right from the first move, unlike the traditional single-segment start.
