pin generator_
Random PINs of 3 to 16 digits, from a cryptographic RNG. See how many combinations there are and how long a guessing attack really takes, with and without a lockout.
crypto.getRandomValues() with no modulo bias. A 128-bit token (16 bytes, 32 hex characters) can't be guessed; 256 bits is the usual choice for session secrets and signing keys.
crypto.getRandomValues() and a word list that ships with it. There is no backend, no logging and no analytics event
that carries what you generate. The page loads an anonymous, cookie-free page-view counter and nothing else.
Guide — how to use the pin generator
Generated in your browser with crypto.getRandomValues(); nothing is sent anywhere.
4 digits is 10,000 options, 6 is a million. Use at least 6 where you can.
A PIN is only safe behind a lockout after a few wrong tries. Ignore the offline columns for a phone or door code.
Use a different PIN for the phone, the SIM and the bank card.
Birthdays, 1234 and repeated digits are the first guesses. A random PIN has none.
Questions and answers
How random is a generated PIN?
Every digit is drawn independently with crypto.getRandomValues() and no modulo bias, so each PIN of the chosen length is equally likely.
Is a 4-digit PIN safe?
Only behind a lockout. There are 10,000 combinations, so without a limit on wrong tries it falls instantly. Phones and bank cards lock after a few attempts, which is what makes a PIN workable.
How long should a PIN be?
Six digits or more where the device allows it. Each extra digit multiplies the options by ten.
Can I use a PIN as a website password?
No. A website without a strict lockout can be attacked offline or at high speed. Use a long random password or passphrase instead.
Does this page store or send my PIN?
No. It is generated in the page and nothing is transmitted or logged.
